Last night I attended the 2015 NY County Judicial Convention. Four judges were nominated to fill upcoming vacancies on the NY Supreme Court: Hon. Ray Bruce, Hon. Tanya Kennedy, Hon. Arthur Engoren, and Hon. Arlene Bluth.
So what happens now?
First, because Tanya Kennedy was up for reelection to the Civil Court and had already been designated the Democratic nominee in the general election, her spot on that ballot will now need to be filled. Her replacement will be decided by a vote of the NY County Democratic Executive Committee (District Leaders) sometime in October.
Arthur Engoren's elevation to Supreme Court will also create a vacancy in the Civil Court, local district 6. This seat will be filled in 2016. You can see what area this covers here: http://vote.nyc.ny.us/downloads/pdf/maps/mc/mcny06.pdf
So yeah, there will be a lot of fun stuff happening over the next year or so. My goal will be to keep everyone informed on the process.
